| One of the last topics that we
did in our class was the one on Plants. This was our favourite.
Everyone in the class worked really hard at making a giant collage
sunflower, which we labelled. Then in Art & Design we looked at
the worked on Vincent Van Gogh. Mrs Bennett read us the story of
Camille and the Sunflowers. This is a story about Vincent when he
lived in France and painted his famous Sunflower picture. We all then
painted a picture of a sunflower, cut it out and Mrs Bennett made them
into a big picture. We think it is that good we have taken it to our
new class. |

We are very lucky in our class as one of our mums is
also a teacher. Every Monday afternoon, Mrs Holden comes and helps in
our class. One day she brought some flowers from her garden in. She
told us all of the names and we talked about the different parts. Then
we had to look carefully at all the different parts of the flower and
make some observational drawings. we think we did some great
work. |

| As part of the
topic on plants in Literacy we looked at instructional writing - how
to grow sunflowers and D&T we looked at how to make seed packets.
We took a seed packet to pieces and looked at how it was put together.
then we designed and made our own packets. On the back we had to write
instructions telling people how to grow a sunflower. While we were
making them, someone came up with the idea of making seed from the
scraps of paper that were left. So we coloured the paper brown,
screwed it up and put it into the bag to make seeds. Below we made
some 3D observational drawings of the inside of fruits. In Science we
were looking at the different types of seeds that plants had. In
Geography we looked at where the plants came from. In D&T we
designed and made a fruit salad. At the end of the year we went
strawberry picking. It was brilliant. |

In Design Technology we practiced our sewing skills
on card with two of our mums., Mrs Robb and Mrs Ambler We tore strips
of coloured paper up. Then we threaded our needles with coloured
thread. After that we designed a picture. Some of us made an abstract
picture. Once we had finished we named our work. Can you see the
Hungry Lion? Or the Clown? Which one do you think is a Big Fish in a
Small Pond?
In Science we were looking at Colour & Light and
how colour can change. In RE we were talkning about Churches. We
thought it would be a good idea to design a stained glass window for
our classroom. When the sunlight came through all the colours mixed
and we got a pattern on our floor. |

During PSHE we talked about looking after each other
in at school. Our school lotto is 'Good Friends Learn Together'. So we
thought it would be great to show how our class as a Circle of
Friends. Can you see how we are all holding hands? |
In Art & Design we were supposed to be making
wire sculptures. However because our topic was on materials, Mrs
Bennett decided to recycle some of our old display paper and we made
paper sculptures. We think that they look better than wire ones. |

When we first joined Year 1 our teacher took some
photos of us with the digital camera for our topic on Ourselves. She
cut the pictures in half and we had to look at our features and draw
the other side of our face. |
 |
|
In our topic on Materials we looked at what
different things were made from. We decided to make abstract art
pictures using some of our materials that we looked at and some of the
designs on the materials. |
 |
|
Our first topic when we started in Year 1 was
Ourselves. We looked at the different parts of our bodies. During
story time we found a book called Funnybones. We thought it would be a
good idea to look at the human skeleton and the main bones in it. We
drew some of these pictures on the computer. On some we used white
pencils and chalk. Others used art straws to cut and stick the bones
in the correct places. George even brought in a skeleton to hang from
the ceiling to go with the display and Laura and Jake brought in some
books on the human body for us to look at. |

|
Mrs Vaughan, our head teacher, took us for a trip
around the local area during a history lesson on House & Homes. We
looked at the different types of houses and what they were made of. We
made some sketches. We used those sketches to produce some
observational drawings. Can you see the detail of all the bricks? Some
of use shaded our work in to give it more effect. In D&T we made
some 3D model houses. We even put chimneys and roofs on. |
